How To Dress For…A Media Job
When your job is to get the scoop you never know where your day is going to take you. Making sure you are dressed to handle any situation is key when you work in the media. From a breaking story requiring a camera-ready look to last minute parties or interviews with a celebrity VIP, a woman in media never knows what her day might bring. The key challenge is finding an outfit that is comfortable enough to handle long days (and the occasional job to chase a story) but has enough polish to not look out of place at a chic soiree.
We recommend timeless silhouettes like a pencil skirt or a button down cardigan. Make them sparkle with unique textures like a jacquard lace skirt with a metallic finish. We are loving how our lurex Metallic Stripe Cardigan takes a classic day piece and makes it work through the evening. Having a pair of flats that has more personality than your average pump like our Michelle Lace Ballet Flat is the secret to comfort and style. And don’t forget a fun hair accessory. A headband is an easy way to “zhuzh” up messy up-do in a minute flat.

How To Dress For… Being On Air
These days there are many more opportunities to be showcase yourself as a consummate professional in front of a camera no matter what your profession. From national morning talk shows to web series video media touches everyone which means types of professionals are called on to give expert commentary and opinions depending on the type of show. We have a few tips to help you look your best on camera so that the spotlight is on your expertise and not on your lack of camera-friendly attire.
• Avoid patterns. Narrow stripes, fine checks or other smaller pattern distort on camera, especially when compressed for digital.
• Avoid white shirts. White shirt glare under bright studio lights. Choose softer shades like gray or blue.
• Chose fabrics with a softer finish like flannel or silk. Harder fabrics can look cheap under harsh lights.
• Choose dark solid colors like gray, navy or black. Charcoals in particular always look great on camera!
Our ideal interview outfit? A classic suit in charcoal, a silk shirt, a bag to tote your notes and of course some great shoes!

As an intellectual you want to look like you are living the life of the mind not dressing like the life of the party! But being a stylish scholar doesn’t have to mean tweedy jackets and elbow patches. Let your contemporary style shine through. Skinny jeans paired with a sweater are an easy way to look on trend and keep the focus on your thesis. Carry a cross body bag instead of a dingy backpack.
