At Ann Taylor career development for young women is a cause that is close to our heart. So we were excited when associate favorite lifestyle site AHALife announced they were partnering with Girl Scouts of America to offer, for the first time ever online, Girl Scout Cookies.
Donate $25 on AhaLIFE to the Girl Scouts Career Exploration Program (CEP) through AHAlife, and they will gift gift you something equally as sweet—a box of Girl Scouts cookies of your choice. Choose from favorites like Do-si-dos, Samoas, Tagalongs, Thin Mints, Trefoils and Lemon Chalet Cremes. Donations will go directly to the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York. Their goal is to see 1,277 AHAreaders support this cause—that’s one donation for every girl that is involved in the South Bronx program in New York, which is designed to show girls their full potential by exposing them to a myriad of career paths.
True to the Girl Scout mission of teaching leadership, values and self-confidence, the CEP is taught during the school day to sixth through eighth grade girls in five under-resourced middle schools in the South Bronx of New York and includes empowering activities such as field visits to different corporations—from law firms to arts/entertainment companies—and guest speaker visits. So do something good today and get something sweet.

Hi! My name is Elizabeth and I am a senior designer for sportswear at Ann Taylor. I am excited to be part of Ann Taylor’s evolution into the new decade! I am passionate about designing artisanal, timeless clothing for the Ann Taylor client. Ann Taylor embraces all women and their aspirations and lifestyles. Our clothes are modern, spirited and reflect our client’s multifaceted life style and it excites me to design for a client so multidimensional! She is intelligent and inspiring on all levels, a modern day icon.
My background consists of women’s ready-to-wear apparel. I began designing clothes at the age of 14 and studied fashion design at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, attaining a BA in Knitwear, Sportswear and later a MA in Illustration. The illustration here is one of my own sportswear designs!
Designing is a true passion of mine and I find inspiration in it each day. Ann Taylor’s design headquarters are situated at center of Times Square, New York City and I find it fuels everything I design and do on a daily basis. I want our clients to look and feel glorious whether they are having caviar or pizza, hailing a taxi or getting into a limousine, putting their best foot forward. That on-the-go, day to night, casual to chic lifestyle you find in a bustling city helps me dream up Ann Taylor style.
For me, design is an expressive endeavor that touches clients’ lives. At Ann Taylor, we strive to provide essential staples that will become classics. I am extremely excited to be part of such a diverse group of talented collaborative people. I love to design clothing which encompasses classic, chic, luxurious but sensible aesthetic on All-American Sportswear. Clothes are powerful elements that build a women’s persona. They can create confidence, delight, and mystery! And I hope to bring each client some joyous spirit into their lives.

Hi, I’m Arlena and I am Ann’s Public Relation’s Manager. Being and feeling healthy makes me feel my best. Bikram yoga is my favorite pastime and practicing something I enjoy when it is for a good cause only makes it more inspiring. Last Friday night I traded the usual glass of wine for a two-liter bottle of Smart Water. For the first time ever, I took the Nite Sweats class at my beloved local yoga studio, Bikram Yoga Lower East Side. As we came in through the door and dropped off our donations for the Lower East Side Girls Club in the designated hot pink pumpkin bowl, Tricia Donegan (pictured here)—the studio owner and pioneer of the original Nite Sweats class— gave us each a fluorescent bracelet and cheered us on.
We each grabbed our mats and towels and quickly ran to score a good spot in the hot room. Tricia turned off the lights, placed electric candles on the floor, decorated the ceiling with hot pink tree lights, pumped up the volume and cranked up the heat. Once the clock hit 10pm, we were ready for her to lead us through the one and a half hour hatha yoga practice.
We started the class with the usual pranayama breathing exercise tilting our heads back to Florence + the Machine’s The Dog Days are Over. By the time we got past party time (our first water break) and were well into the balancing series we were rocking out to Lady Gaga…. Everyone was smiling and laughing, trying hard to concentrate on the poses and keeping themselves from belting out the lyrics to Bad Romance and dancing.
After a long and eventful week at work, it was exactly what I needed to really unwind and relax. Final savasana was pure Heaven, as it always is. After class we celebrated our hard work with mini pink frosted cupcakes from the LES Girls Club bakery and some ice cold Sokenbicha tea, compliments of a brave newcomer Scott. I left feeling healthy, refreshed and inspired; ready to enjoy the weekend. -

Hello. My name is Laura and I am a web designer at Ann Taylor. I recently spent some time in the lovely city of Stockholm. My first reaction was that it reminded me a lot of San Francisco. The light, the hilly landscape and accompanying vistas, the abundance of water and the laidback energy all felt familiar. It was a Scandinavian version of home. I especially enjoyed walking through Gamla Stan – the old town area. The small cobblestone streets and plazas reminded me of many European towns I have visited in my life and this was somehow comforting. I was tempted to purchase a stuffed moose (the local mascot) but maybe more because it reminded me of my little doggy than anything.I was especially amazed at how perfect everyone’s English was. People were happy to give directions and speak English. . I even met a rock musician who used to play with ABBA.
The city is fairly small and I managed to find my bearings after a couple of days, but I enjoyed the sense of discovery. The sun went down very late and at dusk the rose infused light over the water was nothing less than magical.
Perhaps the most exciting part of my experience was relating some of the locations I visited to the Stieg Larson books I just finished reading. Walking through Sodermalm was like actualizing thrilling scenes where Lisbeth Salander minimally escapes death. Hard to pronounce street names like Kungsholmsgatan became part of my vernacular. On my last night I even dined in the restaurant Kvarnens, featured in the second movie. Pretty cool! An imagined sense of a place came to life. Very inspiring. -

Tunnel to Towers Run
Twenty seven Ann associates ran and walked in the Tunnel to Towers Run this morning in New York City. We were inspired to participate in this incredible race by one of our clients Ronda who shared her personal struggle with cancer on our Facebook page earlier this week. Many thanks to Ronda and her friend Michelle for allowing us the opportunity to show our support for Ronda. It was our privilege to participate alongside Ronda in this fundraising event.

The race is in memory of firefight Stephen Siller and benefits the Stephen Siller Children’s Foundation. It’s goals are to support our seriously injured Fire and Military Heroes who give their lives for our freedom, in addition to help support children who lost one or both parents in line of duty through the NY Foundling and Freedom Alliance Scholarships. September 11, 2001, having just finished an overnight shift at Brooklyn’s Squad 1, Stephen had a tee time with his three brothers planned, until he heard the news of the World Trade Center attack on his scanner.

Instead of grabbing his clubs, he grabbed his gear and headed to Twin Towers. Traffic was not allowed through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. He strapped on 75 pounds of gear, and ran through the Tunnel to the towers. This race follows his route. Siller was a hero on 9/11, and on Sunday over 20,000 runners and walkers honored his selfless act and that of the other 342 fire fighters who gave their all. We hope you enjoy the photos we took while running the 2010 Tunnels to Towers Run. -

New Yorkers For Children
Ann Taylor is proud to show its support of the New Yorkers for Children organization and the youth recognized by the organization. This year Ann Taylor dressed the young scholars recognized at the annual gala held at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City, including this year’s Guardian Scholar winner Kadidjia. All clothes were gifted to the scholars.
Ann Taylor Style Director Kristin Rawson (in the middle) met the young professionals at Ann Taylor’s flagship store on Madison Avenue before the event for individual styling sessions. She gave them advice on how to dress for important career opportunities such as interviews. Ann Taylor is honored to be able to support these young women as they continue their education, begin their careers, and improve their lives both professionally and personally.

Hi! My name is Paulina and I am the Director of Media at Ann Taylor. One of the upcoming regular features on our blog “Ann Inspired” features stories of inspiration from our many associates. For my “Ann Inspired” post I would like to talk to you about a cause that is close to my heart. My beautiful twin daughters, Chloe Hope and Isabelle Frances, were born premature on May 31, 2006, at just 26 weeks.
I held my breath in the delivery room as they performed an emergency c-section, and was thrilled when the NICU doctors told my husband and I that both babies were doing well. But that feeling of happiness did not last very long as Chloe died 2 days later. Isabelle fought for 5 weeks in the NICU, but her little body could only take so much and she died on July 3. Both of my girls died in my arms. After all that I had been through, I knew I wanted to do everything I could to prevent this from happening to other families. By participating in the March of Dimes, I am able to share my story and educate people on all the great things the MOD does to prevent babies from being born too soon. It took a while for me to be able to talk about my experience, but I know it’s important, and that enabled me to find the courage and strength to share my story with others.
In 2007, my husband Josh and I formed Team Levine. That first year we raised $11,000; in 2008 $15,000; and in 2009 $19,000. This year we have raised over $37,000 and are the #1 Family Team in NYC as well as the #4-ranked family team in the country!
While I can never bring my girls back, I think the best way to honor their memory & give meaning to their lives is to dedicate myself to raising money for an organization that fights for babies.
