How has being an entrepreneur played a role in your life? What’s your work/life balance like with that kind of a job? I work pretty insane hours, but I love what I do and I have a lot of control over it. Generally, I’m up around 8am answering morning emails and taking a few calls. I’ll usually make time on my commute into work (I get to walk to the office!) to talk to a younger entrepreneur who has a few questions, and then the day really begins in earnest around 9:30am with meetings. So many meetings!
I’m the public face of the company, so I spend a lot of time connecting with investors, clients, strategic partners, reporters and others. I love it, but wow, is it a lot of meetings! Then around 7pm I head home from the office, grab dinner with my boyfriend and hop back online to answer more emails before bed. The weekends are when I really get the “life” part of work/life balance! I also try and make time for one amazing trip every year, because I love being able to travel.
What does “Changemaker” mean to you? I love the idea of having agency, of making things happen. To me, a Changemaker is someone who understands what she wants, and goes out and creates it for herself. It’s not always easy, but seeing something you’ve built or deeply affected is unlike anything else in the world.
Why did you choose these outfits? Tell us about how you take this look from work to play, and why it’s great for traveling . I had so much fun with this outfit. Firstly I think the color of the tank is beautiful, and gives a great “pop” to the outfit. The skirt keeps it classy and professional, but with enough personality for a startup office in the summer. For the weekend look, the breezy pants and contrast make me feel ready to leave Manhattan and find a beach somewhere.
What have been some of the most inspiring locations that you’ve traveled to recently (work-wise and style-wise)? I fell in love with Cape Town, South Africa, when I visited for the 2010 World Cup. Those soaring mountains coming right down to the beach, with this beautiful little city nestled in between – that was incredibly inspirational for me. More recently, I was in Chicago last week speaking at Techweek and I loved the combination of elegance and industry. If I could live there during the summer someday, I would!
