Courtney Scott is… a travel blogger, video host, producer, and the senior editor for Travelocity. When she’s not on the road shooting her travel web series or researching new destinations she’s in New York City talking about travel on CNN, the Today Show or Fox & Friends. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, Djordje and her dachshund, Vuki.
How has being a travel blogger played a role in your life? I wrote my first post as a travel blogger on June 15, 2007, the day I quit my 9 to 5 job and took a one-way flight to Italy. Since then my life has revolved around travel. I met my husband and many of my friends while traveling, too. It’s a career that’s easy to be passionate about.
What’s your work/life balance like with that kind of a job? It’s tricky. I work odd hours with early call times and I’m usually doing something job-related seven days a week. But I love what I do, so I don’t really consider it work.
What does “Changemaker” mean to you? Becoming a travel blogger represented a huge change in my life. The more I blogged, the more I received emails from women asking me how they could make a similar career change. One of those women is now living abroad in Amsterdam and is one of my best friends! To be a “changemaker” in even one person’s life is a beautiful gift.
Why did you choose these outfits? Tell us about how you take this look from work to play, and why it’s great for traveling. My work requires me to be a multi-tasker with a multi-tasking wardrobe. Since I don’t report into a traditional office, I go for comfort.
At AP Cafe in Bushwick, NYC, I chose to pair this linen shirt with a slouchy pair of cropped pants and sneakers.
My at-home look pairs the same linen shirt with a feminine black skirt – throw on a pair of heels and it’s an easy day-to-night look.
I’ve always incorporated linen into my summer travel wardrobe. It’s classic, versatile and cool so whether I’m on a beach in South America or wandering the back streets of a European city, it works. In Belgrade I chose to pair the roll sleeve white linen shirt with these nautical-inspired shorts, which I like because they are not too short.
What have been some of the most inspiring locations that you’ve traveled to recently? I’ve recently been to Belgrade, Tulum and Kauai – each inspiring in its own way: in Belgrade, it was the people, in Tulum it was the simplicity, and in Kauai it was the natural beauty.
