Summer Getaway: Halifax & Nova Scotia

Summer Getaway - Halifax Vacation

Another week, another wonderful vacation — in this segment of our Summer Getaway series, Arlena, our Senior Manager of Public Relations, shares glimpses of her recent trip to Canada. After hearing about her trip, we’re itching to make a trip to Nova Scotia ourselves for a bike tour and some oatcakes sometime soon!

Summer Getaway Halifax and Nova Scotia

Day 1: A stroll through Point Pleasant park is a must. You can then pick up something healthy to eat downtown at Pete’s Frootique and head over to Public Gardens for a picnic!

Day 2: Lean about Halifax’s history, the Titanic, and the Halifax Explosion by visiting the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Then, take the I Heart Bikes tour – it’s a great way to get to know the city while getting in some exercise, and the view from Citadel is beautiful!

Snack Break! Haligonian’s love their oatcakes. And although any oatcake is better than no oatcake, my favorite is from cozy coffeehouse The Second Cup on Spring Garden Road (Spring Garden Road is Halfax’s main shopping destination and one of the city’s busier streets).

Day 3: The Maud Lewis Exhibit at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is one of my favorite places to visit! This fall, the gallery will be receiving a set of photographs by Annie Leibovitz.

Day 4: A day trip to the historic town of Lunenberg is a great way to see Nova Scotia and learn a little more about what surrounds the city of Halifax.

Day 5: Grabbing breakfast on Saturday morning at the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market is a great way to start the weekend. I recommend going up to the top floor and sitting outside while you eat – beautiful view! You can pick up plants and herbs as well as handmade soaps and other little gifts for friends back home.
