Pitchfork Music Festival 2011

The early knock against the 2011 Pitchfork Music Festival was its preponderance of repeat acts, with Animal Collective, Cut Copy, Fleet Foxes, Deerhunter, Kurt Vile, and Destroyer all returning to the annual indie throwdown in Union Park. But, as problems go, having to watch those bands again (especially the outdoor-friendly AnCo and Cut Copy) are pretty good ones to have. The graying prestige acts are promising, too, with Guided By Voices, Thurston Moore, and the reunited Dismemberment Plan in tow. And while this year’s token metal act (Kylesa) is a rather safe, if still engaging choice, the attention paid to hip-hop and dance music (Das Racist, Curren$y, OFWGKTA, DJ Shadow, Chrissy Murderbot) and the best of 2011’s goth revival (Cold Cave, Zola Jesus) have us pretty jazzed.

The 2011 Pitchfork Music Festival is playing from July 15th to July 17th at Union Park. Check out Flavorpill for more information on this event and all the other cultural happenings in your city.
