Formal or Casual: How to Dress For a Beach Wedding

Dressing for weddings can be tricky, especially when they are outdoors or in nontraditional venues. Dressing for beach weddings can be especially difficult – flip flops and swimsuits are always a no-go! Whether you are a bride-to-be planning a destination wedding or hitting the sandy shore as a guest, getting it right when it comes to the dress code is a must. From dress style to shoesto accessories, here’s your guide on how to dress for a beach wedding, whether its a formal or casual affair.

Fabric is key. Regardless of formality, choose a breathable material that will stand up to a little sand or wind and keep you cool in the summer sun. Lightweight fabrics like jersey or chiffon are perfect for beach vows, and bright hues like coral and aqua complement the setting.

Leave the stilettos at home. Opt instead for a pair of low wedges, espadrilles or strappy flat sandals that won’t leave you wobbling in the sand (or leave holes in the beach!).

The beach setting calls for fun jewelry: a stack of bangles or a colorful statement necklace. Sunglasses are a beach wedding essential, but don’t forget to bring a light scarf or wrap to keep your shoulders warm for post-ceremony sunset sips.

From classic Cape Cod nuptials to tropical island celebrations, dressing for a beach wedding can be a challenge but the perfect way to break out of your wedding season style routine.
